The outbreak of Covid-19 in Hubei was rapidly felt all over the country and keeps spreading around the world. We as artists can help to bring a glimmer of light to Hubei province which has been hit hard by the epidemic. This is one of the most noble functions of art -- to help people finding a little more fresh air and a little more hope. During this difficult time artists have spend their time at home thinking how can they be more helpful. Do you feel more nervous and sensitive to passers-by when you go out? We plead for Hubei to come out from the Covid-19 shadow without big and deep scars on people’s minds. Do you still remember the last time you hug someone?
What part can we play during this plague that spreads across the globe? Do something for the victims if there’s still someone who needs it and something that can be received, or isolate yourself avoiding any type of communication including with yourself. We should not devalue our individual significance because of the mindset of a universal fate. We should not let inertia and no hope feelings overwhelm us. Many artists feel art to be meaningless at this moment. Artists and artworks are being almost ignored during this epidemic situation. The purpose and consequence of art must not be changed by the existence of an epidemic situation. On the contrary. Artists should be more reflective of what they have done and what they can do now. Artists should do their best to save resources. In short, subtraction is the main method to work. Effective communication is primary and essential throughout this limited space and time. For instance, how can you get out of this social shadow caused by the epidemic and greet your family and friends.
Our chosen stage to support Hubei victims is an online exhibition with 20 artists who are in China and out of China with an auction at "NO. 0 BOX" Virtual space.
The online exhibition promoted by Langyuan station, No.0 Box, and No-Way space; Langyuan station will have direct sales on the auction live room. When this epidemic situation clears off BACA Gallery and Langyuan station will support the physical exchange exhibition. Thank you to all the artists, BACA Gallery, No.0 Box and No-Way space! Extremely thankful to Langyuan station support.
