"Black Time" is a temporal structure formed through a path—constructed from the collection of stone, soil, gasoline, and rust—where walking in high heels and their subsequent dismantling compress, displace, and reconfigure time into a sedimented field between industrial systems and bodily experience.

The project unfolds in two phases, with the second still in progress.
The work traces a path from #485 Main st, Poughkeepsie to the Hudson River bridge through the collection and transformation of materials encountered along the way: stone, soil, rusted iron, 87-octane gasoline, and its residual traces. These materials are treated not as inert matter, but as carriers of compressed histories and latent temporalities.
The sound of my footsteps in high heels and the smell of gasoline form part of the work’s sensory field. The heel marks a trajectory through time, while the shoe is dismantled, distorted, and reassembled into forms resembling vessels and rivers. The body becomes both a measuring device and a site of friction between material, movement, and industrial systems.
Black Time reflects on the sedimented histories of extractive economies, transforming a path from 485# Main ST, Poughkeepsie to the Amazon Bridge into a shifting field of memory, circulation, and material transformation.
Velvet antique high-heeled shoes, size 5, acquired from a vintage shop in Midtown Manhattan. The sizing runs approximately half a size small. I was drawn to the color; after wearing them once and developing blisters, I cut them open. The left shoe contains 87-octane gasoline. The right shoe contains iron ore collected along my route toward the Hudson bridge.
